Charles and Pam White moved to Grenoble, France in
1976, after Charles had taught French and English for
8 years in the York, Nebraska schools. Their first daughter,
Tami, was 5 years old at the time. They lived and worked
in Grenoble for 11 years before moving to Lyon, France,
in 1987. While in Grenoble, the White family was blessed
with two more daughters, Tia (1976) and Tess (1984).
The Church in Lyon has 32 members at present, including
9 couples. Several women have non-Christian husbands.
There are students, postal workers, an automobile mechanic,
a photographer, a carpenter, a secretary, a child care
worker, a nurse, a nurse's helper, a prison guard, a
high school teacher and a social worker. Three couples
are retired.
Charles' work with the Church in Lyon is mainly a
teaching ministry, developing and building up the Christians,
new and old. One of his biggest projects is training
men for the eldership. He is also the principal translator
and the director of the French translation center for
the monthly magazine "Truth for Today", a magazine sent
into 31 French-speaking countries around the world.
Pam is Charles' bookkeeper and "help-meet" in their
mission work. He leans on her wisdom and sound advice.
Charles and Pam's mission commitment is for life.
Having now been in France for 30 years, their desire
is to stay and work for the Lord as long as they have
health and financial support. They are happy to be where
they are, doing what they are doing.
